New Louisa Law to Outlaw Inoperative (Junk) Vehicles
LOUISA COUNTY has passed an ordinance to outlaw junked vehicles throughout the County beginning January 1, 2007.  Land owners will be fined unless they dispose of old derelict cars, trucks, trailers, RVs, and motorcycles.
The Louisa County Clean Community Commission offers solutions for residents with inoperative vehicles.  There are a number of recycling, towing and parts centers in and around Louisa that will haul the inoperative vehicles and junk away for FREE.  All it takes is a phone call.
HELP IS HERE
Plus, there is an additional incentive of $25 per vehicle to owners who voluntarily get rid of their vehicles…if established DMV procedures are followed.
Under the proposed new ordinance, any inoperable vehicle -- except farm vehicles or moped-like vehicles -- will have to go, or be screened from view.  That will include any vehicle (except an antique vehicle) that does not have a valid license, decal and inspection sticker.
Every type of motorized vehicle will be covered which includes “a mobile dwelling, sleeping place, office, or commercial space that is part of a motor vehicle.”  It will include RVs and motorcycles, busses and semi-tractors, and trailers of all types.
Exempted will be vehicles that are stored inside buildings, and a maximum of three inoperable vehicles which may be screened or covered, so long as they are not visible from a public right-of-way.
Penalties will begin at $100 if the County cites the owner of a junked vehicle, and goes up to $250 for additional summons, reaching a maximum of $5,000 for a series of violations.   Additional state-mandated fines may also be imposed.
